Introduced in fall 2017, Research Methods in Social Justice, is a new course in the psychology department that introduces students to critical social research methods. The class is based on instruction in mixed methods research that incorporates both qualitative and quantitative data.
The core classroom activity involves collaboration with community members to help assess housing needs in Union County and the surrounding areas. Students design questionnaires and collect data from the local community in order to improve policy processes throughout the area.
NVivo is a computer assisted qualitative data analysis software. DP&S worked with faculty to introduce the program to students, import data, setup the coding dictionary, and collate analysis results. The outcome of the project will be reported back to local housing organizations in the Lewisburg area.
